Tim Mahar has been named the new Vice President of Mission Advancement for the YMCA of Central New York. In this critical and strategic role, Tim will serve as a resource to the Y by leading the Mission Advancement team, including Marketing & Communications.
Tim has a strong background in communications, fundraising and community engagement and has more than twenty years of advancement experience. At Syracuse University, he held leadership positions at the College of Visual and Performing Arts as the Assistant Dean for External Relations and then in the Office of Alumni Relations, as the Executive Director for Regional Programs. Tim then joined Cornell University as Senior Director of Regional and Affinity Programs and then moved to the position of Assistant Dean of Alumni Affairs and Development for the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. Most recently he was the Executive Director for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse. In all of Tim’s prior roles he was responsible for strategic planning, fundraising, engagement, communications, board management, marketing, and staff development.
Tim also has a background in training and development, presenting and conducting workshops for universities and businesses on a wide array of topics. In addition, he has performed in television and film, as well as improvisation on the stage. Tim is a graduate of Onondaga Community College with an Associate Degree in Radio and Television, and he graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Communication. He earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, along with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Conflict Resolution from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. Tim is a lifelong resident of Central New York and he and his family reside in Baldwinsville.
